Description

Exercise book for the study of the transformation of the melodic expression of tone series by changing the weighting and accentuation.

On a total of 132 pages, SHIFTING offers systematic exercises for the further development of melodic knowledge and skills as well as for promoting instrumental fluency for creating a virtuoso flow of playing.

The book consists of two parts.

PART ONE
MOTIF – SEQUENCING – TONE SERIES – STRUCTURING

The first part of SHIFTING contains 100 notated exercises, based on eight distinctive tone series, which were developed through different types of sequencing of elementary melodic motifs. The exercises serve both the knowledge of the craft of developing tone series through motivic sequencing and the ability to recognize them, as well as the study of the transformation of the melodic expression of these tone series by changing the weighting and accentuation. The practical exercise promotes the further development of a sovereign instrumental playing technique and the inner tone and line imagination.

PART II
ROWS OF TONE FOR YOUR OWN STRUCTURING
The second part of SHIFTING builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the first part.13 rows of tones – also created from elementary interval and harmony elements by means of sequencing – provide the starting material for your own shaping. The tone series in this part are left open and unformed with regard to their grouping and weighting options. Thus, they offer players the starting material for their own exploration of melodic design possibilities. The exercises serve to expand musical abilities, develop new melodic synapses, promote individual melodies and develop their own tonal language.
